Dual Diagnosis Intensive Outpatient Program

Augusta (207) 626-3448

One of Crisis & Counseling’s Outpatient substance abuse treatment options is the Dual Diagnosis Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The program primarily serves individuals with a substance dependence and a psychiatric disorder that interferes with their ability to achieve recovery.

Is Crisis & Counseling Centers' IOP Right For You?

If you have been diagnosed with a substance dependence and a psychiatric disorder, you may qualify for participation in the IOP, if:

  • you are willing to make a "significant" change in your substance use;
  • you would find daily support and structure helpful in reducing your use of substances;
  • you realize that it is important to have your mental health needs recognized and addressed as you are working to change your substance use.

Progress, not perfection, is the mark of success in this program. With group peer support and individual clinical support for both mental health and substance abuse treatment needs, success is reached by many who have not succeeded in other programs.

How much time does the program take?

Groups meet Monday through Friday from 1p.m. - 3 p.m. and individual sessions with IOP clinicians are based on your schedule.

Treatment is geared towards your individual needs. The exact length of your participation cannot be determined until you are in the program. Each week, the IOP staff will review your progress to determine if you are still eligible and in need of the services provided by the program. A typical length of time in the program ranges from 2 to 3 months.

Within the IOP, a number of different topic groups are offered. Topics include relationships, safety, expressive art and recovery support groups.

How Do I Pay?

We accept MaineCare and private insurance and also offer financial assistance for those who qualify.
