Non-Clinical Services

Getting together with others who share common interests or challenges can be empowering. Giving voice to common concerns and advocating for understanding and change is possible with the power of many. Collective thinking and networking takes us out of our isolation and helps us realize we have much to offer and that our own experiences can be a valuable resource to others.

Crisis & Counseling Centers provides individuals with a couple of ways to work with others on common concerns - to improve the quality of their own lives and to improve the service systems in the state and on local levels:

  • The Community Advisory Committee is comprised of individual who have used behavioral health services in the area.  The committee provides regular feedback and input on what our services should be like - what is needed and what is on track.  (A subcommittee of the group has developed the educational initiative AWARE, to encourage people to make an emergency plan for their pets.)  If you would like to be considered for participation on the Community Advisory Committee, or to learn more, call CEO, Lynn Duby, at 207-626-3448 x 128.
  • The Diversion Advisory Committee provides input and guidance to Crisis & Counseling Centers' jail diversion work.  Each member has been a "consumer" of behavioral health services (mental health and/or substance abuse) who is in recovery, and who also has some history of involvement with the criminal justice system.  With this unique perspective, members of the committee have learned about the existing health and correctional systems, and have provided input on services, communication with law enforcement, treatment options, and peer-based integrated health curriculum for use with incarcerated individuals and individuals in mandated treatment..   For more information or to be considered for participation on this committee, call Crisis & Counseling Centers' Director of Correctional Health & Jail Diversion Services, Bob Kingman, at 207-626-3448 x 141.
  • For the past ten years, Crisis & Counseling Centers has been home to the GEAR Parent Support Network, a statewide parent-to-parent network for families of children with behavioral health needs. If you are a parent of a child with special needs and you live in the state of Maine, GEAR's parent support groups, trainings and networking opportunities are available to you, free of charge. For more information, go to our page about GEAR, or call GEAR's toll free number, 1-800-264-9224.
